Big Flies=Big Possibilities

This is a tip for those, like myself in Atlanta, who live in warm areas that contain trout streams. Recent highs in Atlanta have been 95 degrees. This is the perfect time to grab a big fly and go chuck and duck. With hot temperatures and so many fish stringers on the Chattahoochee, it is time to try something new. Throw big flies and find what is aggressively feeding. It will keep you more entertained then drifting through deep holes targeting trout that are lethargic from the heat and warm water temperatures. Change your plan and try and catch bass, perch, trout, and whatever else might be lurking in the Hooch. Who knows, you might entice a monster trout to catch his only meal of the day.

Any fly that is large and possibly articulated will work. Some that come to mind, are the Articulated Zoo Cougar, Sex Dungeon, Meat Whistle, Circus Peanut, and the classic Wooly Bugger. If it looks too big in the fly box to be used, tie it on. Size 4 or larger hooks, and match it with a seven weight rod and hit the water. It will be a very entertaining way to have fun in the heat. For best results, I would recommend hitting the water early or late in the day. Not much will be happening during the middle of the day.
